We've been back from our trip to Virginia for a week now, so I figured it would be a good time as any to start blogging about the trip.  I'm going to do this in chunks, and I wanted to start by blogging about my first sewing machine. Well, I was very successful in my endeavor to turn hexagons into a quilt block without having to do half hexagons, and it came out super well I think! Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against half hexagons.  They appear to be super easy to quilt with; however because I didn't want to break up the hexagon pieces, especially of the hedgies, I kept them in one solid piece, which made it

Like most awesomely cool things that turn out well, it started with an idea.  I recently found this fantastic blog called Film in the Fridge, which features -among others- a really nifty tutorial on string quilt blocks.  I'm not entirely sure what or why it's called a string quilt, but I like the end result!  Ashley's got a ton of super awesome talent with quilting, and is quite inspirational

One thing I've always wanted to do with my cricut was cut out vinyl and then use it to decorate.  And I finally did!  I've done two projects.. and with a bit of fustration and I do have to admit.. a little swearing, I got them done! This was the first one I did with Zoe's help.  On Monday, we purchased the wooden plank at Roberts, and then painted it bright orange and let it dry overnight.

Well, for Christmas this year, I'm doing altered paint cans filled with cookies.  I'm making five of them and after some trial and error, I've got the snowflakes to stick to the cans!  I cut out gingerbread men and women using my Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge, the snowflakes and can toppers are made with my Joys of the Season Cartridge, and I used my Martha Stewart Icicle Punch for the icicles

Okay, I'm a huge personal advocate of breastfeeding.  I breastfed Zoe her first year of life; formula never crossed her palate.  I of course gave her other things too like juice starting when she was six months old and then I transitioned her to whole milk when she was a few weeks shy of one just to start transitioning over.  And of course, I'm currently breastfeeding Ruthie as well.  Ruthie
